Not a lot of people know that watching old Michael Caine films is one of our favorite pastimes and that's exactly what we did today.
'The Statement' has Caine playing a French war criminal with a cockney accent, a good film and a bit more knowledge for Esther about the Second World War.
I wish I'd had the professional advice that Charles Kennedy has had.
If he thinks that two months without alcohol means he has 'resolved' his 'medical' problem then he has a long way to go yet.
I very much doubt that he has had a problem for eighteen months either.
It all just seemed liked a load of political convenience (bollocks) to me.
Tonight we went to the Plaza de Armas to a new cafe-restaurant that has opened near the cathedral. Called Bohemia and part of a Lima based chain, it is a breath of fresh air for the city.
Eating out in Cusco is usually a very disappointing experience but tonight we had a great meal in a really friendly atmosphere. The staff even looked after Salvador as we ate, walking with him around the restaurant and showing him how to use the cash machine (unfortunately not how to open it).
The food was excellent and of a much higher standard than is usual here. So now we have somewhere to go out without wondering what we are going to get. Bohemia is only the second chain to risk coming to Cusco, the first being a disastrous foray by Subway the sandwich people.
Subway made the classic Cusco error of trying to sell highly priced, low standard goods to tourists and got rumbled. I really hope that Bohemia succeed as the fewer tourists that come to Cusco and have a bad experience, the better it is for all of us.
By the way there is no cure for alcoholism, but Inca Kola does make a great antidote.
