We finally managed to publish the riot act today. The riot act consists of a set of rules for the cafe. We have had to put them in writing because certain things are not happening how they should be. Nothing particularly life threatening but a few annoyances. It is quite difficult here to get through to people who are used to turning up when they feel like it and working at the speed they want to. In fact it's a bit like dealing with some of the staff I had in England. Here though the problems are far more ingrained and far more cultural and sometimes we end up wondering who is making the rules. A long and at times acrimonious meeting with each member of staff this morning has hopefully set us on a forward path again. By the way the acrimony was largely coming from me, there are plenty of truly awful situations to be in in Cusco, working for us is not one of them, so when the whining starts up, I get a bit upset.
After our morning of law enforcement we went to get 'Fantasia' for Salvador. Despite attempting to feed him on a diet of 'Wallace & Gromit' and 'Noddy' somehow Disney has seeped across his radar and the mere sight of Mickey Mouse now gets him dribbling. Children must be born like it. Disneyworld here we come!
I also saw on BBC World today that 'Downfall' has won a best foreign film award so I will be having a cheery night watching that sometime soon. Also on offer was 'Pear Harbour', I looked but could not see 'Applecalypse Now' but maybe the rest of their fruit related war films are a bit rotten.
We also went to visit our friend Alejjo at the Gypsy Pub in San Blas. I am still on the lookout for a reliable driver to take me down to Lake Huacarpay to see if there is any mileage in running birdwatching tours down there. He say he knows a bloke and will get him to contact us. We also took Salvador to see the big fountain in San Blas square when we were up there. I never thought in our days at the internet cafe, that we would one day walk along Carmen Alto hand in hand with our little boy. I've had a few moments today when I've had to suspend belief that we are actually here, it all seems a bit weird sometimes, I think it might be that our minds are being poisoned by Celebrity Big Brother (I know the winner but I can't post it here because Esther reads the blog).
