Our romantic Valentine's night meal took place at 5.30pm in the empty restaurant of the hotel, with Salvador charging from end to end and under tables as we ate in shifts, Esther first as I tried to predict which ornament he would attack next, then I enjoyed my meal as Esther deflected his attempts to detach the valve from the gas cylinder behind the buffet.
We retired to our room just as it was getting dark and a group of 40 or so Japanese tourists turned up, until then we had the hotel to ourselves so it was weird to suddenly see dozens of floppy Machu Picchu hats bobbing about.
We decided to watch the 'Magdalene Sisters' which Gary had lent us and very good it was too.
A rousing dawn chorus woke us all up and I went out with Salvador and his cart to make the most of the wonderful Urubamba climate and try to avoid the equally early rising Japanese tourists. We were destined to be in T-shirts throughout our time in the Valley. A bit of off roading with Salvador got him in the right mood, we powered through the undergrowth before he spent some time exploring the wide expanse of the empty car park.
