This DIY wheelchair made our trip to the park worthwhile, as you can see it is made out of a pair of bike tyres and a sawn off patio chair, clever eh? It also appears so good that it has cured the person concerned as they have walked off and left it thereWhile we were in Miraflores yesterday we stopped on a corner and Fernando one of the regular customers of Ink@net in Cusco during 2000 almost walked into us.
Ten minutes later after we had done some shopping, we were walking past the same corner and bumped into Niel (spelt correctly for Peru, just like Jhon), Ethel’s husband. Ethel was Esther’s friend who was living in Cusco when Esther worked in Ink@net. We had some amazing times together in my first few months in Cusco, mostly because I couldn’t understand a word of what she and Esther were talking about. So we are going round to see Niel and Ethel tomorrow night. Esther said it was incredible that in a city as big as Lima we could bump into people that we hadn’t seen for years. I said that the areas we frequent in Lima are quite small so it’s not that strange, even so it was peculiar to see them all on the same corner.
Today we went to Telefonica to sort out the discount for our entry in the Yellow Pages, they will send us a cheque in about a month which is better than not at all.
As the woman from Telefonica touched Salvador’s leg he clocked her one which I thought was very appropriate.
On the way back we actually encountered a good taxi driver who lent us five soles to buy Salvador a wall-chart from someone selling at a set of traffic lights.
Esther’s mum fell over again last week but is recovering OK, she hit the deck in a hospital so they were able to X-ray her straight away.
We are just about to give the ‘Friendship Park’ another go as there is a mini train at 4.30pm supposedly.
The pictures in the paper of Tumbes are incredible, the city is now flooded after they got fifteen hours of torrential rain to end the four year drought there. It was strange to see some of the places we visited in December that were tinder dry now awash with water.
We have just got back our trip to the park, the train was lovely - clean, shiny and empty. Empty because it only runs Thursday to Sunday. No comment. The park was open though and we had a quick spin around it (iced mango drinks sold out) and then went to Wong to buy plug-in mosquito zappers because they have invaded the house.
As its been so hot since we got to Lima we’ve been tempted to leave Salvador without his nappy on, not so tempting anymore. The first time we did it he peed all over the bed so I had to dry it with a hairdryer, tonight his special finale after we got back was to curl one out in the doorway of the bathroom whilst mummy was running his bath. I thought of trying to harden it with the hairdryer but the smell didn’t seem to warrant it hanging around too long. Lovely, but at least we are learning fast.
