'Come back in two days and we'll see how your treatment is going' said the Doctor on Monday. During the night it felt like someone had stuffed a doughnut down my throat so with this new symptom in mind we got a taxi to Clinica Paredes again this morning. A twenty minute wait was ended when the receptionist asked if we were waiting for Doctor X, we were of course, ' well he's not here today, if you need to see a Doctor you can see him' she said gesturing to the sour faced youngster who examined me last week. 'When is Doctor X here again' 'Tomorrow', 'see you tomorrow then'. 'Doctor X is never here on Wednesdays' she said with a parting look of confusion as to why we had come today at all, silly us. A marvelous parcel arrived from Auntie Christine & Uncle Mick this morning. Salvador now has a lovely new top and Esther some of her favourite OAP sweets. Unfortunately I think that the large bar of Cadbury's Dairy Milk could have been tampered with by Peruvian customs so I may have to eat it all and wait to see if I die, I don't really want to risk this potentially dangerous product on the delicate stomachs of Esther or Salvador. I am becoming increasingly concerned that Salvador may be speaking French to us, he seems so confident that we know what he is rattling on about and it all seems to make perfect sense to him. Maybe it's a form of protest against living in a house where he can hear English, Spanish and swearing in the space of a few seconds. So like a slug on a damp lettuce I carry on grappling with my illness, an illness which has just given Esther a lovely surprise. I have been saying for days that the smell and taste of my 'cold' is repulsive, when she checked the other day she disdainfully said she couldn't smell anything at all. This was not the story today as she recoiled from my nose with the phrase ' Oh dear (in English), you smell like a drain (in Spanish)' she then told Salvador that 'Daddy is rotting', which is actually about how I have felt.
