I should have guessed something was going to happen when ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ shimmered through the newsagents the other day.

I reacted like I always do.

A sense of superiority took over and I marvelled that the song could still burst in on such a boring moment in the day and immediately make it better.

I always react like that.

Tony Wilson died yesterday.

(or with worse tunes …. that superiority complex he gave me about music is permanent)

Tony Wilson gave me New Order crashing out tunes all over England and Tony Wilson gave me the Happy Mondays on a sunny day and a robbed tent on a dark night.

Above all he gave me music – a great gift from a great man.
