This morning we went to the big open air market at Huancaro. Looking down from where the taxi dropped us off it seemed like a mixture between a refugee camp and a farmers market. On closer inspection it definitely looked more like the former as there was a distinct lack of Range Rovers and Barbour jackets. There was an endless supply of fruit and veg though, sold by the campesinos (farmers) themselves from the back of low loader trucks.
We bought some lovely mangoes and got a false five sole piece in our change for our trouble. A quick visit to the mango stall again and a comparison with a genuine coin soon resolved the problem.
We also got some potatoes which were being sold from huge sacks which stretched for as far as the eye could see.
So this afternoon I made Jacket Potatoes filled with Avocado & Pesto which even Salvador ate.
