It was pretty grim in the cafe last night.
Valerio found out that their had been a mudslide where his family live and that his 14 year old neighbour had been killed.
His family's house was also destroyed.
Valerio's father and pregnant sister spent the night in a tent donated by the civil defence.
The Andes are completely unforgiving sometimes.
Miriam, Ali and I spent the evening figuring out what Valerio needed to do and today he is looking for a room in Cusco for his family.
The important thing is to ensure that his father doesn't spend another night in a tent on the side of a mud covered mountain that could collapse again at any moment.
The cafe was quite busy and I had an interesting conversation with a couple from New York about the hot topic of the day - Ollanta Humala.
I also managed to fend off the complaints from a very unhappy group of German tourists who didn't like the fact that we wouldn't serve beer.
