I think we have now moved into the high season after several false starts.
Apart from the obvious upturn in takings, it also means that there is an upturn in the percentage of interesting customers in the cafe.
My favourites this week have been an enthusiastic couple from New York and a quite remarkable pair from Strasbourg who have really made me laugh with their odd outlook on life and food.
The latter couple also drank us dry of Pisco last night before they staggered out to plan their trip to Machu Picchu.
The Taxman's Hit Squad have been very busy in Cusco and have closed dozens of businesses in the past few days.
This time they have even hit the black market and closed down our favourite video shop, luckily the owner had moved all his videos his other stand nearby.
All of the closures have been due to the businesses not giving out receipts, which is a good way of avoiding tax here.
If they find a problem, the Taxman shuts the shop, tapes the entrance up and plasters it with posters detailing the crime.
Yesterday I was walking past a bakery we sometimes use and saw that they had fallen victim to the taxman, I smiled as I smelt bread baking behind their closed doors which were covered in closure notices.
